Egg-zactly. Disconnect the battery or pull the "PCM" fuse in the fusebox. Resetting the ECU will allow you to test to see if the computer is confused. If you *still* have the problem, then it is probably a mechanical issue not related to the computer.

A totally off topic reply from me here..
A couple of years ago my brother was living in Cairo egypt (Australians end up in odd places) and he was saying that the current car craze was fluffy dice , flames on the side , and flashing lights in the back window.
Many of the young car nuts had dark oiled hair and long side burns and Elvis P songs were huge hits.
