OMG!

I have just put my name down on the 'buy' section to express interest!. Imagine the MPG you would get, if you hypermiled it! Also imagine the range extension of even a simple EV addition to it

Pretty sweet. Will never make it to the states though. Thats just way to slow. It's 75mph speedlimit in AZ and most do 80 you would get run over lol.

Very nice concept. Good numbers both for FE and for purchase price. The GT model goes for just under $20K USD, which I would gladly pay that for a car that gets that kind of mileage out of the box.

i don't think this thing is exactly slow... the LS is no hotrod but still has a topspeed of 99mph that's more than you can legaly drive over here the GT does even better... this would be an ideal car for driving to work every day and occasional highway traffic... the GT would make a very affordable but usable roadster.

i like the philosophy behind this car... unlike big car manifacturrers showing of with halfhearted hybrid of ev concepts, these people take conventional technology and try to get the most out of it.

i think the cars of the future won't come from big car manifacturers... the real innovation will come from small daring companies.... of course by the time these vehicles will really start to threathen the established brands they'll suddenly "invent" competing models and try to put the newcommers out of business.

I forgot who said it, but here's a quote:

"Small cars mean small profit."

Theres no way that this car will meet the latest USEPA smoke and NOx emissions regulations, so there is no chance it will come to the USA.

The Loremo could come to America if it uses modern gas engine technology. A one cylinder, long stroke, four valve VVT engine with direct fuel injection displacing 400 - 500 cc would make about 40 HP, and it would smoke the Loremo's puny and heavy diesel engines. And get about the same mileage as the diesels.

Any of the major automakers could provide such engine technology to Loremo. I'm certain they won't. See the quote above.

Only highway with the right gearing. City for most would still be somewhat gasoline like, not that it's as bad as normal, probably better than an Insight.

The complete smart fortwo cdi 800 cc common rail diesel engine weighs 69 kg, or about 150 lbs. It's a fair whack smoother than a large displacement one lunger would be too.....not to mention having very favourable torque characteristics (peak of 74 lbs*ft at 1800-2800 rpm).

The smart's gasoline engine is 10 kg lighter, and is also an inline three; it would be an easy transplant by the Loremo company, if they ever actually do build + sell a car. Plus they make 84 HP in turbocharged form, which would make the car a rocket!

**** a diesel Loremo. This thing would go about 100 miles per charge at 70 mph on 800 pounds of lead acid batteries. Replace with same weight of NiMH or NiCd and range would be about 250 miles; with same weight in Li Ion that range would be about 500 miles.

If this car ever gets produced, it is a realistic route to a $20k EV with 0-60 mph < 7 seconds, > 150 miles range, > 120 mph top speed.

The annoying thing is, if this car puts out double the NOx emissions (in parts per million) as a Hummer, then won't be allowed. However, the Hummer will actually put out more (in grams / mile etc), although have less in terms of parts per million.
