LOL I finally broke into the 500miles with my civic vx
I've had my civic vx for about 1 1/2 years now and i've finally got 500 plus miles from a single tank of gas LOL. My vx came with some crappy 185/70/13tires so I finally bought some Sumitomo 165/70/13 for it. Man these Sumitomo can roll forever compare to the heavy 185/70/13. My vx feel so light now it picks up speed very easily. I'm sure it probably stay in lean burn more now also. My previous tank was 514miles with 9.5 gallons = 54mpg. The first click was at 8.2 and I squeezed another 1.3 gallon in there. There was still a little bit left in the tank, i'm sure I could have went another 20-30miles. Anyway i'm just happy that I finally broke into the 500miles with my vx, my prior best was 471miles.

Have you been adjusting your odometer reading for the tire size difference with both sizes?

It took me a year or so of ownership before I got my first 500-mile tank out of my VX. Nicely done.

Well I'm sure the Sumitomo is the correct size so there shouldn't be any adjusting for them. The 185/70/13 however is different. I've ran my vx with some 175/70/13 for a while and I can tell you that for every 55miles on the 175/70/13, the 185/70/13 would only register 52miles. That's like close to 15-20 miles difference on the 185/70/13 if I'm getting 400 plus miles from a tank. I'm sure my 471miles previous best probably would have been a 500miles tank if the tires were the correct size.

Yea the new LRR tires certainly helped alot but the tricky thing about the vx is like what you once said. When filling up the vx, you can still get 1 plus gallon after the first click. For a whole year I wasn't topping off my fill up correctly and my gas needle gauge would start dropping anywhere from 50-90 miles. Now that I know that I can put an extra 1 plus gallon after the first click, I can get over 120 plus miles before the gas gauge start to drop. My 500miles tank didn't start to drop until 180 miles.

Topping off like that is very inaccurate, unless you're saying you always put in exactly 1 gallon after the first time it clicks off.
It's also generally not good for your evaporative emissions system.

Yea that's what I've been doing for a while now. Whenever I get the first click, I always add another gallon to it.

I've been doing it since 2005 in my Civics with no ill effect. Maybe I've just been lucky. I have only topped off a few times in the Fit. This is because it's my wife's DD, and I know she won't top off, and it'll throw the mpg results off by a fair amount.

You VX owners need to try for a metric kilotank next. If I can do it in my boxy Scion xB, surely you can match me with your fuel sippers . 621.6 miles on 10.563 gals = 58.84 mpg.

Wow, you got 621 miles on a 10.5 gal tank...very nice. Yea I don't think my 19yrs vx will ever see a 600 miles tank but I hope she prove me wrong LOL.
