Ah...another $200 Metro...there's still hope. (Casting eyes about for another Metro in need of "TLC"...)

not even close. But swap in a D15z1 and you'll be doing just fine in that Festiva.

See my sig. That's a combined average not the highest or the lowest. My tires are only inflated to 35 psi as well. I'd probably do better if I inflated them to the max like some people here do, but I just don't care for the ride at the higher pressures.

Looking at the geo owned by the OP, my festiva is doing better and the only mod I have is a Crane Cams ignition system that I had on hand and decided to use. I am running Amsoil Signature series 0-30 and double platinum spark plugs, but that's it.

The OP has his tires inflated to 65 psi whereas mine are running at 35 psi. The OP would appear to have ripped out as much as possible to get better MPG, while everything that came with my Festiva is in the Festiva.

That's not to knock the OP or his geo, but the festiva (at least in my case) is putting up better mpg's on average than the Geo owned by the OP, even when I had approx. 300 lbs extra weight in my vehicle over the usual two people and had tackled a trip from sea level up 800+ meters.

well I know the stock Festiva Epa numbers are considerably less than the metro or VX. The Metro is rated at 43/51 and the Festiva is rated at 30/37, so that's what I was basing on.

The Metros that are notorious for great FE are 3 cylinder, not 4.

I'm not sure that more inflation would help you. Nobody promotes increased inflation more than I do, but I suspect that beyond the point of acceptable comfort doesn't provide any useful improvement -- and certainly nothing worth ill handling tires that won't leave you safely able to maneuver. Inflate them to just under the point where they're uncomfortable.

For me the limiting factor tends to be the maximum pressure of the tires, but I tend to drive relatively heavy vehicles even when I'm driving a small FE car.

I can see that then. The EPA for the Geo is certainly higher than the EPA for the Festiva. I've been pretty happy with the fact that I'm getting about 24% better mpg than the sticker said I should and am really only using the basic hypermiler techniques 40mpg is an easy reality for me at this point. The Festiva sure beats the hell out of my Liberty, just not in the comfort area.
