There is another problem with converting a VX to automatic: there was no automatic VX. This means that an automatic VX ECU was unavailable, and you are going to have to run the motor with some other ECU. This alone will reduce fuel economy. But when combined with the fuel economy loss of running an automatic, you are probably little to no better off than just driving an automatic DX.
