Hyundai Active Eco System

I recently got a 2012 Hyundai Elantra. It is equipped with the Active Eco System. Was curious if others use it? If so, do you use it all the time or only on certain drives? Also do you notice a difference in fuel economy with its use.

I have a 2012 Hyundai Accent. I keep mine on all the time, as it helps shift my automatic transmission for better fuel economy. It does appear to help a bit, but of you ever need to accelerate quickly, make shure to turn it off.

If all the system does is to make the Eco light when yu drive efficiently, then you have to be careful because your throttle mapping will not change. You always have to watch for pressure on the gas pedal especially on uphill terrain. You're better off to loose a little speed or keep a steady pace and win some momemtum once you go back on level or downhill. The new Civic however, has an Eco system that helps control the throttle response and everything that comes in between to help with fuel economy.

MatrixDom,

What you say is true, with regards to the 2011 Elantra.

The 2012 and beyond Elantra's have the true Active Eco System.

Contrary to what MatrixDom has said about the ECO mode not changing your throttle mapping, on the 2012 models it DOES change it, as I'm sure you have felt when you turn the system off and then on. I have the 2012 Elantra GLS with a 6-speed Manual and I noticed when the ECO system is on the gas pedal feels very unresponsive or slow to respond when you first depress the gas, it makes it hard for me to shift smoothly because the gas pedal is not really responding with what I'm wanting it to do, in other words it feels like you have to press it pretty far down for it to build rpm. When the ECO system is off it feels more like a regular gas pedal and i can shift/drive alot smoother when i change gears and want to accelerate, etc. As far as actual economy goes, I dont see much difference, I average around 40mpg or higher all the time usually...hope this helps some.
