Don't use nails though , they fall out and puncture the over-pressured tires

Coroplast + small holes in the plastic + zip ties= 3% to 5% increase in mpg at highway speeds

Distance traveled by bicycle in 2007= 1,830ish miles
Average commute speed=25mph (yes, that's in a car)
