Back to back bests coming right up!
My last "tank" I filled up for a drive to Cleveland (250 miles one way for me), did a TON of drafting, no cruise control, no A/C and only cracked the windows, tires at 50 psi, one passanger, trunk loaded w/ extra weight (luggage, tools, fluids).
Average MPH was 57, IAT showing 138*F all the way there w/ HAI. I achieved what I previously thought to be impossible w/o more mods and flatter roads... 40+ in the form of 43.66 MPG!!
My previous best highway mileage was 33mpg about 2 years ago w/o trying to hypermile and not knowing a thing about it.
I was expecting good mileage so I revised my HAI for the trip home to see if I could better it. I added a heat shield around the exhaust manifold made of very thin metal flashing and then trucked the flex tubing through a hole, it's now sealed a lot better than before. I was wanting 150*F+ on the highway, and after warm up and 20 miles travel, it nailed 154*F and stayed there, only dropping a few degrees w/ ambient; upon arrival home, it was showing 146*F and in the city I hit 178*F which is said to be optimal.
So there it is... 43.66 mpg (out of 5.6 gallons, not an entire tank - although I was carrying a full tank of gas, so that weight played a factor I'm sure)
My next post here should be in a few days, reporting what looks like 45mpg on the scangauge from the trip home. (showing 46.5 currently, but will add some city mileage to end up around 45 probably).
I literally SMASHED my goal of 37 mpg highway. After I filled up and calculated the 43.66mpg, I sat in the car w/ my jaw dropped, re-doing the math and trying to figure out how??!! I re-calibrated the SG and headed home.
Thanks to all of you!!
