grill block and ac

Does a full grill block hinder the performance of ac? I feel my ac blowing cool but not cold, and i just had it re-charged.

Re: grill block and ac

It can.
With the HHR, when I tried a total block, including the opening in the front bumper, I wouldn't get cold air while stopped. Only while moving.

Oh yeah, the a/c will suffer with a full grille block. On my truck when I was operating a grille block I had a 95% grille block, but when I really needed the a/c to be COLD (like when it was over 100F outside), it was disappointing. I ended up doing about an 85% grille block so my a/c would work.

Re: grill block and ac

I put my block between the condenser and the radiator. It doesn't allow proper flow through the condenser but it's enough to work well.

However, if you need that much A/C then it might be worth using only a partial grill block until winter.

Re: grill block and ac

I recently had to open up my grille block even more than before. It's now almost completely open the width of the radiator. It still blocks the area where the A/C condensor would have been if it had ac. I put an LED on the dash to tell me when the cooling fan was running. It was running near constant on the highway on the last hot trip. It seems the VX needs most of the air flow it gets already.
