Fuel Additive - ether
Just received an email from a friend in Florida that met a guy very carefully adding ether to the gas in a Scion xB and getting 60mpg.
Anyone every hear of using ether to boost gas mileage - I know it increases performance and can produce pink exhost smoke - at least it used to in the old days when leaded gas was popular.

I have not heard of anyone using it. But I often wondered how or if it would help mpg. I just assumed it would evaporate before it got used.

starting fluid
but the question is... what kind of ether is being added? There's a few out there.... at least one of which is already used in gasoline to

Nope and I doubt I will find out but it is more controlled because of the use of it to produce drugs - probably a good start would be starter fluid in a spray can. Used to start diesel engine in cold weather often and known to blow them up.

I just did a run with the sable today with ether. I went to the gas station and got some starting fluid. 10 oz. can for 1.98 I held the can upside down and pressed the nozzle to let all the air out. then I punched a hole in the top of the can and poured it into a container. then used a funnel and poured all of it in my tank. I figure I had about 10/11 gal in tank so about 1 oz. per gal.
The trip to my mothers, 55 miles each way mostly north/south. 85% hwy 15% city
North 38mpg
south 35.9 mpg...... average.. 36.95 mpg. lots of traffic on the way home.
This is by far the best mpg I have got on this trip. I take this trip maybe 2 times a month for years, my best ever previous was 34.5 average.
So does the Ether work? It looks promising, But I need to do more testing.
some of you guys should give it a try and post your results.
