Finally got an mpg figure.

Today I refilled my fuel tank for the first time since initially filling the tank on the 3rd of January (I don't do a lot of miles). My calculated figure was 29.5 mpg which was a bit disappointing. My Jazz returned 55 mpg for the 62.5K I did with it. The only saving grace is that this figure was for the wettest and coldest months of the year. I got 275 miles out of the tankful and according to the Multi-Function Display, this was at an average speed of 14 mph. That is what driving in and around Edinburgh does. I would have been happier with the 32.6 mpg the optimistic MFD said I had managed.

I use BP Ultimate E5 97 RON. When you are filling up once every few months there is no point in skimping on fuel. The top-up took 9.3 gallons. Let's see what the summer brings.

That's pretty shocking for a small light vehicle. Are you sure there's not an issue or it's misfiring? I'd definitely have a mechanic look over it. That's exactly the same as the worst tank on my GTi which was driven extremely hard, maximum attack.

I think your driving pattern would now suit a diesel better. The poorest efficiency I ever saw over a tank on my Clio DCI was 56.5, not far off double what you're getting now.

It is actually rather heavy for its size. The bonnet is a brute to lift and the doors are also solid.
It runs as sweet as a nut, no codes, and there are no dragging brakes.
The problem as I see it is I opted for a 16-valve with low-profile wide tyres and most of the runs I do are less than two miles in urban traffic.
The WLTP Urban figure is only 33 mpg so considering the short runs in wet and cold conditions I suppose it is only to be expected. When Motor.EU tested it their estimated test consumption was 27 mpg!
It will get a decent run out at the end of this month so I will see what it returns then.

It was actually a diesel Fabia I went to see but it had been sold before I got there.

Such short trips are hard on fuel economy. Might even want to go with changing the oil sooner than factory interval with that short of ones.

RON 97 fuel is mucho hard to find in my area. Reckon a specialty fuel retailer might have this - - - but chances are the cost would be rather high..................

I've used Chevron for both cars since new.

Seems to be working out. The VW has logged zero issues since purchase

Same for the Mercedes..................almost. It did suffer an ESL failure in 2019.
(Chevron Supreme was not much help in preventing the ignition/steering function
failure).

That's a definite let down after your Jazz but at least it's only about 2.5 times a year at that consumption. If you were filling 2.5 times or so per month it might be worth changing cars but at that low consumption probably not, especially if you like the car otherwise. My mpg is down due to the AWD on this car but I only use a tank a month so it's tolerable.

I filled up a fortnight ago (the second time since getting the car) and it returned 41.2 mpg (UK) hence my improved numbers.
