EPA test

CarloSW2 you were asking about EPA test on another thread You can go to the epa website (or just google EPA test procedures) and they will give you more information than you want on procedures to do the test. Here's a website that list the big problems with the test.

Some interesting point during the test.
Temperature 75%
Dewpoint 45 (very dry)
Tire pressure 45 PSI
Tier 2 gasoline
Acceleration rates 0-60 in 20 secs.

That's why the tests are changing for '08. Expect a lot fewer vehicles above 30 highway... Rated HP is changing too. The SAE's new engine tests are under less ideal, more real-world conditions just like the new EPA test.

One interesting thing in that link. They claim that EPA data shows people accelerating at 15mph per second. Uh, 0-60 in 4 seconds? Something is wrong here because that's driving a Viper flat-out! Sure, *some* people do that *sometimes* but I would expect that the typical drivers car is only capable of half that acceleration at best.

thats a viper floored to 60 with a real driver. i bet they just accelerate as hard and as fast as they can to 60 and count that.

think about it though, i bet i can do 0-15 in 1second in any awd or rwd car. 0-30 in 2 seconds also shouldnt be that hard at all. its when you shift to 2nd gear that you lose your umph.

on a different note, do any of you guys know what 'tier 2 gasoline' is ?

But just think about how much better our mileage will look under the new EPA rules.
