Alpine Electronics Debuts Environmentally-Friendly Technology to Support Energy Efficient Vehicles
Back January 12, 2009
DETROIT, (Jan. 12, 2009) - Alpine Electronics of America, Inc., the industry-leading provider of mobile media solutions, today announced it is developing a portfolio of environmentally-friendly products to support automakers as they focus their resources on creating energy efficient vehicles. Alpine?s eco-tainment development products - including sound systems with a smaller footprint and lighter-weight digital amplification, navigation system enhancements to encourage efficient driving, and a lower power consumption display - are the company?s latest contributions toward a sustainable mobile society.
Alpine made the announcement today at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, where several of these new eco-tainment solutions are on display in the company's booth (room #02-44).
"Consumers are increasingly aware of their vehicle?s impact on the environment, but they are not often willing to compromise creature comforts like mobile media systems," said Todd Kovach, vice president and general manager of Alpine Electronics. "Contributing to a sustainable mobile society is a key initiative at Alpine, and these ?eco-tainment? based solutions deliver the best in performance and environmentally-friendly technologies. These latest product developments demonstrates Alpine?s attention to the environment, to our customers, and to the end consumer."
Eco-Display Automakers have entire teams dedicated to creating energy sustainable vehicles, but the electronic components inside a vehicle, particularly display screens, can be a drain on its system - even when the vehicle isn?t running. Alpine?s low power consumption eco-display only uses 8.4 watts of power, an average of 15 percent lower power consumption than similar display technology. The 7-inch, 480 x 800 resolution WVGA screen features Mercury-free backlighting and a very low reflection touch screen that fades to black when not in use to conserve energy. The eco-display technology integrates nicely with electric vehicle architectures.
Efficient Drive Assist Solutions
Alpine utilizes drive assist technology that rates driving habits by processing sensor data using a unique algorithm. The program can alert the driver using a scoring system indicating driving patterns that impact fuel economy. Drivers are encouraged to improve their driving score by gently accelerating and decelerating to improve fuel economy and reduce carbon emissions.
This product has been tested in Japan in the aftermarket, and consumer response has been overwhelmingly positive.
Environmentally-Friendly Audio Solutions
Alpine has developed high-performance amplifier and speaker technologies with improved efficiency, reduced size and lower weight than traditionally designed products.
* Alpine?s line of environmentally-friendly amplifiers with digital processing offer one of the lightest, most compact technology platforms in the industry. Alpine has reduced weight and heat emissions through use of high efficiency digital circuits. Conventional analog amplifiers suffer approximately 50% power loss, while Alpine's amplifier solutions achieve 90 percent efficiency. As a result of this high efficiency design, the 8-channel amplifier is 55 percent lighter than its predecessor.
* Alpine?s DDDrive? speakers feature a lightweight, high efficiency design using a unique motor with dual voice coils, achieving 80 percent efficiency versus 30 percent for ordinary speakers.
* Alpine?s Counter Drive Speaker offers wide polar response in a low profile design that enables it to be only 30mm thick as opposed to 10cm, making it an excellent solution for center or door speaker locations.
Even Alpine?s aftermarket products are eco-friendly. The IDA-X305 3rd Generation Mecha-less Digital Media Receiver is lighter weight and includes a Mercury-free LED backlight display and a lead-free solder.
"In addition to developing advanced products that offer enhanced safety and comfort in an environmentally responsible manner, we apply our sustainable approach to workplace conservation, communication and environmental audits," added Kovach.
