as I said in a previous post the duct tape is meant to be a "control group," or a group with no fuel economy modifications. This is standard practice when conducting experiments. The experimental group(s) are compared to the control group to determine if there is a statistically significant difference between the groups.
In this case, they showed that the duct tape group (no mods) actually had better fuel economy than any of the other modifications. This proves two things:
1) Gas mileage can vary a lot between tanks
2) The modifications made no difference
The entire point of this post was to illustrate this and to sarcastically draw attention to the fact that duct tape was more successful than any of the commerically available modifications.
