Cold Air Intake on 07 Yokon

I am looking at putting a K&N Cold Air Intake on our 07 Yukon w/ 5.3 too improve fuel mileage. When I looked at what OEM, it looks like it is very similar to the design as describred by the K&N intake (with the exception of the filter). The tube looks to have taken into account reduced restrction and is plastic already. Has anyone tried this on a 07 Yukon with a 5.3? Any suggestions and feedback wil be appreciated.

I doubt it would pay for itself. A DIY one, OTOH, might.

At gmfullsize.com there's a few threads instructing how to make DIY CAIs. They seem happy with the result.

If it doesn't work, try the opposite approach?

I picked up about 2 mpg on my '04 Yukon by "restricting" about 1/3 of the air flow coming out of the filter box by taping over the edges of the screen at that location. No matter what I do with my foot, only so much air goes in, so only so much fuel gets used. Perfect cure for leadfoots. Forces longer, slower acceleration.

Sure, I don't have ANY power, but every time I take the couple of pieces of duct tape back out, my mileage drops and I put 'em back in.

If you throw a check engine light or idle rough, back the tape of a tiny bit.

Enjoy your new underpowered truck.
