It's a little known fact but removing the "frame" from the hood actually makes it lighter than a carbon fiber hood. Sure, it's super flimbsy, but it's much cheaper.

Most carbon fiber hoods now adays arn't even that good of quality, and sometimes they offer no weight reduction at all. It's more of a fashion statement than anything else.

Yeah, I'd never do CF for weight savings, and disco told me about the hood support a while ago, but I don't want to screw up my only hood.

Yea, its not cheap to ship them. I used to just get 4-5 orders for them, then on my next trip back from LA, toss them in the back of my volvo (I could fit 5 honda hoods back there in the boxes!) There are a lot of total crap hoods, non-rolled edges, no or poor UV protection, thick and heavy. The ones I bought were middle of the road to upper end quality. And when you buy them 5 at a time, they aren't too pricey.

Do you know how much a "gutted" stock hood weighs? I used to have a fiberglass hood that was SUPER thin, it had to be held on by some Dzus fasteners and was like a freaking SAIL trying to check the oil on windy days. I don't think it could have weighed more than 4 lbs max.
