Better MPG on 97 Geo Metro Auto 4-cyl?

Although it wasn't my first choice in a Geo I just bought a nice automatic 4-cyl (will probably sell the car in a few years to get a manual 3-cyl). Since I hadn't really been trying to buy this (it just kind of fell in my lap) I hadn't done any research on getting good MPG out of it. What have you guys been doing and what kind of mileage have you been seeing? I do have a scangauge2 that will be getting mounted in this car. Not sure what all I can do with an automatic though.

i coudn't find a gas log w/ the AT.

with a 3 speed auto you certainly will be limited especially on the highway. the old EPA estimates are 30/34 MPG. this is what i use because they should be able to be duplicated AND even improved on with hypermiling.

that's a starting point, so i hope it helps! best wishes.

The PO says the car gets and average of 42 MPG (I have not picked up the car yet). I'll be using this car as a daily driver to get back and forth to work. It is only a 16 mile trip on back roads (only two stops).

on back roads with relatively low RPMs, i think you'll do very well!
