Better F150 mileage

Does anyone out there have any proven ideas to improve the mileage on my F150 Super Crew w/4.6L 4X2? It already has a Flowmaster muffler, K&N air filter, and an Edge programmer. And I'm planning to put in an electric cooling fan.

Do a search on here for phil knox. He made an aerodynamic truck cap that made some big gains for him.

Ok, you're talking about a bed cover, sorry I forgot to mention, it has one on it. It's the PVC flat cover.

I presume by the engine size it is a 96 or newer...and likely an automatic?

Try...

LRR tires, higher inflation, a scan gauge to monitor your driving habits, go slower, avoid stopping, reduce your use of A/C, lighten the load if possible, make sure it is tuned up properly, reprogram your shift points (if it is an auto), check your alignment, check your brakes, and look up "stinkerbutt" <http://www.gassavers.org/garage/view/445> to get some aeromod ideas...kitcar <http://www.gassavers.org/member.php?u=1002> got his 2000 Dakota upwards of 30mpg! Oh...and check the forums.

Granted this references an Explorer but there might be something on this site that could spark some ideas for your F150

* Ford Explorer 1996 report by "rface" - goes from 16.7 to 20 mph with 3 oz / 10 gallon mix.

* Ford F150 1995 - I have a Ford F150 with a 5.8 liter. V8 Truck has approximately 157,000 miles on the odometer. I have run the acetone test with the following results while using 2 oz. per ten gallons normally I get about 220 miles per 17 gal. tank. With the addition of acetone the mileage has gone up to 248 per 17 ga. tank. The acceleration is improved and morning start up is almost instant. -- Scott. 10/27/05

* Ford F150 2004 - 16-17 mpg hwy before; 22-24 mpg hwy after; running for about 6 months, since Apr/May 2005; have been telling all my family and friends about acetone and the Scan Gauge -- Ferrell Beaird <hcc{at}valornet.com> (Jan. 6, 2006)
