back from a 1500 mile road trip

Well I'm back from Ohio! Had a great weekend, lots of fun. Onto the gas mileage of the little saturn. On the way down, i just followed my gps, it took me through chicago.. at rush hour, and through LOTS of construction. From western wi, to columbus ohio i averaged 44.7mpg.. On the way back i was determined to get 50mpg. I changed my route to avoid the construction and chicago. I managed to pull 49.8mpg on the way back... Not 50mpg like i wanted.. but so close that it didnt matter to me.

I WILL hit 50mpg.. mark my words.

Depends on your rounding!

Nice numbers for sure.

I think you did really well.

Two things from reading your post. First you were so close to your 50mpg target that you might as well say you made it......I mean a .02 difference is so small. (miniscule even) The other thing is you gained 5 mpg going around the city/traffic on the way back. That is a big difference and shows how much impact driving through traffic does to your mpg on that trip.

Its a base model 2000 SL1 Mtx. Soo for those of you who dont know what the cars have by model name.. its a single over head cam 8 valve 1.9 liter 4 banger, attatched to a 5 speed manual transmision. Its a base model, having only tilt wheel and a/c for options. It is also bone stock except for a cd player.

Interested to know what the average MPH was on both there and back.

I hit 46mpg in my '96 SL2 loaded Auto last summer. Only mod is HAI and SGII. Did mild drafting and no cruise control. Ambeint was like 84*F.

I want an SL1/SC1 so bad for my next car... I'm looking at them all the time on craigslist.
