Hydrogen is like electricity in that it is not a commodity that can be monopolized, and it is for that reason oil will continue to fuel our vehicles for a long time to come. Hydrogen however is even more dangerous to the oil companies in their quest to control the energy market, as you can't really patent it, and it would have to be something exceptionally unique to patent a tank. Conversely, battery technology can continue to be bought up and controlled for decades if by no other means than to control the supply of raw materials for them.
Don't expect to see hydrogen anytime soon.
