I recently started getting increased consumption on my 2.0 TDI.
The car has gone through some ECU tuning throughout its years (not by me) and now all of a sudden it has gone from rocking 6/100 to around 7.5.
Anyone has any idea what can be the cause? The sound of the car is the same and it has not lost any power.
Does the car have DPF's? Sometimes diesels have to regenerate the DPF's to prevent clogging up, they do this by increasing the load on the engine to generate more heat. This also increases fuel consumption temporarily.
Depending where you live, could be atmospheric i.e. temperature decreasing, or even winter fuel blends.
The car does indeed have DPF... Which I have never checked to be honest. I think I heard that I can clean that if I drive constantly at around 3k RPM on something like 4th gear?
Yea I mean a steady run at high revs should burn off the particulates clogging it up, if it even is that, but most cars have built in software to detect this and regen themselves.
You could remove it, but this is illegal in many places. Replacement DPF's are upwards of $1000 so it's better to maintain properly than replace.

These guys also have some tips... Do you guys agree?
A friend mechanic also recommends that trick to keep the DPF from heavy clogging. One old guy brought his truck to the shop for the installation of the suspension and bf goodrich tires plus the alignment. My friend did that cleaning trick afterward.
