I don't think you're an oddball here... there is at least one other person I can think of that wants MPG and speed.
BTW, an aftermarket cruise control MIGHT be a good investment.

yep that's me. I found the way to make fuel economy and power. I can get cams that would bump up my top end to 6500-6800rpm instead of the engine dying after 5k. I can get pistons that are high compression to compliment the cams and my engine is bulletproof except the weak pistons anyway. Also I found a way to get an ECU that would give me any redline I want. 7000rpm sounds enough.
The truth is I'm not going to get all this because the new cars that are coming out already have fuel economy and power. Just look at the new camry. It's good for low 14 seconds and gets 31mpg hwy/22 cty. I plan to keep my current car till it croaks and just buy a new fast, reliable, fuel efficient car. It's not worth to waste money if you already have a car.
