On our volvo the the MPG display is consistently 1mpg pessimistic from the actual mileage. If the car got 30mpg and the display will show 29 average. I think its because its constantly integrating the last few seconds for an average. So if you go into overrun and the injectors are OFF, the display will take about 5 seconds to go from whatever your load MPG was to 99.9.
