95 DX vx swap help

Okay I may be in over my head! But I figured I have to start somewhere. So I just purchased a 95 dx with a vx vtec-e. I have no idea if it's done right or wrong this is my first Honda and my first manual transmission car. So my biggest issue is there is no RPM tac so I have no idea when to shift :-\ I drive country roads at 55 to 60 mph I have been keeping it in 4th gear because 5th is just really loud. i have driven it 180 miles and it is at 1/2 tank. So any advice will be greatly appreciated :-)

Run a tank or 2 sometimes I'm at 1/2 tank at 200 sometimes it's 175. You also have a 12 gallon tank not a 10. Shift early. What do you mean it's to loud in 5th?

I shift based on mph not rpm.

2nd at 15mph
3rd at 20mph
4th at 25mph
5th at 30mph

Add a few mph to each shift if going up hill. And as the saying goes... Bob is your uncle!

Edit: yeah, 180 miles on a 1/2 tank would be okay with a 10 gallon tank, but not great. But if you're not using 5th gear then I guess 180 miles at half tank could be expected.

But like I said my 1/2 tank is always a little floaty. It's never really the same. Heck once 1/2 tank was like 130ish but mpgs were fine in the end. So

I will run tank to its end and repost final miles. So at 30mph I should be in 5th? Is 5th best for mpg then? Sorry I'm a noob but I appreciate all your help thank you guys

Mtank, generally speaking lower RPMs are better for mpg. So, yes, 5th gear is best for mpg. If you are climbing up a hill you'll probably want to be in 4th gear at 30mph.
