Just want to add that we bought our first car in May of '84-a blue 1.3 CRX and logged an easy 60+ mpg across the AZ desert. We've been shafted by the auto industry with todays mpg regardless of added safety features and their weight wasting mpg. 29 years should not yield a net negative of pogress in this department.
As to your new 1.3 please be aware there WAS a problem with the oil pump and if the check engine light comes on be sure to have that pump checked, otherwise it was an amazing and trouble free car for us. Our 91 DX doesn't hold a candle to the 84. The tranny in it seems to be geared for a 1/4 mile dragstrip not efficiency. I loved how the 84 loped along at 70 mph with a sleepy rpm due to tall gears, what the hell Honda was thinking with the '91 gearing, let alone today, is a mystery.
