New guy with an '02 Saturn SL1

Hello everyone! Glad I found this site! I drive 65 miles one way to work, almost all flat highway miles. I am looking forward to doing what I can to make my little Saturn as efficient as possible!

Soon to find out! Just bought the car and I pick it up on Wednesday 3/28/07. I've been driving an 2005 Civic Si but am forced to sell. I have been getting 31.22 with that.

auto or 5 speed?

If its a 5 spd it will take some getting used to that long overdrive but the results will be great. You'll be getting over 40mpg and not even trying.

The garage entry says auto. OdieTurbo had problems with his previous manual and didn't want to get another one.

Welcome to the site!

Sorry about your manual transmission woes. You'll get very good MPG with an auto, but if you get really hardcore, you may start missing your manual. Do you troll around in saturnfans.com? That website is great for Saturn maintenance and mods.

After replacing it twice at $1,200 each, I don't think I'll miss it that much! No I haven't been to that site yet, I'll check it out. Right now I'd be happy if I can squeeze 40-45 MPG out of it.

As for my Honda, I wanted a cheaper (1/2 the price) with roughly the same miles. In our market up here, I couldn't find a 2000 and up Honda with under 100,000 miles.

Welcome

31 in an Si isn't bad at all.

Welcome, BTW.

My old '99 Si (completely different animal) was lucky to get high 20's on a good day.

I think you'll be pleased with the Saturn's potential. There's quite of bit of advice floating around to really tweak it.

Best of luck!

Found the damn papers for the '01 Saturn SL1 with the 5-speed. The "Quill Bearing" went twice. Once at 74,326 and again at 96,490 miles. I told the dealership to keep the damn car and went and picked out the Honda they had.
