New guy with a 1986 CRX HF

Hi Everyone,
I drive 60 miles a day to work and have been doing it for 20 years. I decided I'd like to get something that gest better mileage than my '96 Ranger so I started looking around. A friend at work told me his brother had an '86 CRX HF that he bought new and just recently started running on 3 cylinders and was open to selling it. After I read more information about the HF and how it could get 50MPG I called him and asked him what he wanted for the car. He told me he'd give it to me even though he just put new tires and breaks on it. I gave him $200.00 and drove it home. It sat in the garage until yesterday when I pulled the engine and trans out of it. I'm going to the get original engine rebuilt and also the trans since it had some bearing noise in it. I'll let everyone know how it goes. The plan is to restore it to original condition and get the max fuel mileage possible.

Good luck!

While the engine/trans are out I'd spend a few bucks and a few hours and do struts/springs, tie rods, etc.

Springs/struts will go in the rear only. The front has torsion bars.

Ive had a couple of them. My grandson is driving one to school every day. I will say that the oxygen syncer is very important to getting good mileage. I drove my 88 from here in Oregon to New Foundland and back pulling a small tear drop trailer and still got over 40 miles to the gallon. It said in my vehicle hand book that You could safely drive the car 70 miles an hour with it in second gear. I could be going up a mountain and come up on a diesel and downshift to second and fly past them with the trailer. I loved it and would like to have another. Mac
