Smile New Gas-saver in Fla

Hi There! been lurking her a while now and finaly decided to join the madness!

I used to be into dragracing 5.0 mustangs and that where my user name comes from.

gas prices finaly got the better of me and i sold me 93 lx and bought me a 99 escort zx-2 auto. not many of them had a stickshift and i wasn't patient enough to wait so i'm stuck with the auto.

epa numbers say 25/33 and i've seen/measured close to 30 around town. thats with me letting it run down the low fuel light. i don't fillup cause i only drive maybe 100-120 miles a week!

I bought a scanguage-2 so i could see what my actual mileage was and where i could improve it. seems like my car get best mileage above 42 mph. thats where the torque converter locks up and rpm's drop about 200-300. once there number jump from mid 30's to 46-50 at steady speeds. i usualy end up averageing 37-39 when i pull into the garage at work and also on ride home that involves 3 lights. i have a high of 40.2 when i caught this 1 light and didn't have to touch brakes at all and could hold the 45 mph limit for 2-3 miles.

Welcome!

Hey welcome to GasSavers!

You'll find a lot of folks just like yourself who went from HP to FE.

Despite having the Automatic, you can still make some mods and change your driving style to improve (it may be frustrating, but it's possible and easier than you might think. I'm stuck with 2 automatics).

Anyway, check out the Busted/Confirmed Mods section for more info, and feel free to ask questions anytime. Best FE to ya...

Hey Mike! Welcome aboard!

I'm particularly interested in the Escort. I don't think we have too many Ford owners on GasSavers. I guess you're now the official embassador.

I've been lurking here and have checked out wherever a visitor can go and have even tried a w.a.i experiment but didn't work out for me to well. weather here still around 90 and while it did raise intake air temps also raised coolant temps too much for me and i pulled it off. maybe when it cools off here some it might help with quicker warmup.

Matt: wow just joined and already I'm an ambassador!

Wasn't the Tempo manufactured by Citroen?

I spent most of my life drag racing. You are making some nice progress with your car. SG2 has helped me a lot.

Like you, I own a 99 ZX2 5 speed. Glad to see another on the site. These are great cars. I just registered on GasSavers CO ZX2. Today I entered my Garage info and Gas Log info. Take a look.
