Hey guys, I have been lurking for a while, decide I would finally sing up and post

I have a 1996 VW Jetta (mk3)

When I got the car I was cranking out 32mpg, but I am down to about 28 or so now. Suspension is collapsed and the car dog tracks pretty bad, needs and alignment. Lucky I go to an NATEF auto school so I have access to a good alignment rack and some lifts so I can fix all of it.

Anyways, my plans now are to fix the suspension and align it. Then do a grill block with a belly pan and maybe delete my side mirrors (I never use them anyways).

Majority of my driving is to school which I run a 100 mile round trip each day. Most of my time is spent above 4,000 rpm so I am looking into changing the 5th gear out for a higher ratio. I'm sure thats not helping me.

So, I'm hoping to get 36mpg if possible. I guess I will see how it goes.

Welcome to GS! Do you have a dynamometer at the Auto School? After you get your Jetta back in MPG form, you may want to get a ScanGauge. The dyno + the ScanGauge will help you determine your MPG "sweet spots" for your car. If you do a (non-aerodynamic) mod, you can pop it back on the dyno and see if it works!
