Hello NEWB here 1989 CRX HF

Hello all. I have been reading this site for a long time and recently purchased a 1989 CRX HF with 210,000 miles on it. My first test of the car resulted in 43.75mpg 140 miles on 3.2 gallons. I recently discovered a large vacuum leak in the PCV valve hose and the valve itself was pretty gummed up.

Just gave her an oil change and tomorrow I will fill it up and have my second mpg average, however I expect it to be low because of the vacuum leak and because I let it run for a half hour or so testing other repairs.

Nice site by the way, it looks like you all are pretty smart when it comes to fuel economy and I am eager to learn from all of you.

Thanks,
RickyD

Welcome to the site! It's good to hear you are getting everything figure out with the crx. How do you like it otherwise.

Excited to see your numbers.

Filled it up today and got a rating of 42.12 mpg 310 miles on 7.37 gallons

40/60 cty hwy avg 70mph on freeway

This round I am going to try and average <= 60mph although it is hard because of no cruise control

You can do it! How's it running? I'd shoot for a general tune up, should be posting a bit better numbers I'd think.

The thing runs great.. I knew my mpg wouldnt be that great this round. because of the vacuum leak and a bad PCV valve plus my driving habbits were not the best. Also I left the car idle for 1/2hr to an hr testing the radiator for leaks. My tires are at 40 psi so I think I am going to inflate them to 50psi tomorrow and hope she is not too rough
