Talking Hello from Charlotte ('95 Civic EX Coupe with D15Z1 power)

Hello all,

I am Will from Charlotte that stumbled upon this site (for the 2nd time) while looking for P07/L1H1 info.

This past weekend I picked up a 'very clean' 1995 Civic EX Coupe with plans to put my D15Z1 motor in it. The car had a H-series motor in it... so I will need to remove the cable shifter stuff and finish collecting the parts that I need to get a single cam motor back in the car.

The last two things that I need to pick up are a new distributor and a L1H1 O2 sensor.

Now that we have a Pilot for the wife and kids my DD does not need to be so big... so I am selling my current DD (1993 Volvo 945ti).

I have been searching for tips and tricks on this site and have found a bunch to work with.
Keep an eye open for a post with my engine swap work in the DYI forum.

Thanks

Are you going to get a JDM D15Z1 equivalent or a junked engine and rebuild it?

I would have liked to have been able to hang on to my Z1 when I swapped it out for a Z7. I would gladly have given it away for free. But being that I was 800 miles from home doing the swap and in the process of moving, I had to leave it outside for the magical junk engine fairy.

My brother is giving me his D15Z1 once his D16Z6 is back in his '93 SI. It has some miles, needs a good cleaning, and a distributor. The swap back to a P07 ECU and L1H1 may come at a later date (need to make a harness for the 5 wire sensor)... I just want to get the car road worthy soon.

We started work on the car yesterday and fixed the shifter area. I will start a build post soon. Would the DIY forum be the best place for that?

Well if it helps at all, the Z6 and Z1 use the same distributor, and this distributor is unique to all other motors. It's TD42U.

Coil and ignitor are the same as most other distributors. For sure all the 88-00.

Jup... and they are pricey little buggers (from the dealer). The catch for getting the motor for free from my brother is that he kept his distributor and RHD Vtec engine harness. The motor is a US D15Z1... he just has in in a RHD car.
I get to purchase a distributor and install a US (LHD - EX/SI) harness on the motor before installing it.

The P07 ECU and 5 wire sensor (with jumper harness) will be added at a later date

The Z6 and Z1 did well this past weekend at VIR.
The car is doing great.

I updated my gas log with three entrys (the second entry is the mileage while on race track). I will have some city mpg numbers at my next fill up.

I will compile my build pictures and create a "build post" in the DYI forum sometime soon.

Mid 40's with a 4 wire Z1 = hrmm.
I may hold off on getting the P07 ecu and 5 wire for a little while.
