Yea the sound in Sport mode is partially false. I really like the natural engine/exhaust sound, but the truth is, it's just too quiet, modern cars are so refined and quiet that it does ruin experience a bit.
I can see why people hate this idea, but humans are gullible creatures, and when you're driving in a spirited manner, it really enhances the drive having a louder engine sound, even if it is synthesised. It works well on the diesel models too, given that diesels aren't exactly sporty sounding.
