Carolina Cavalier02
Hello, I'm 46 years old/ male with an 02 Cavalier. I've been working on saving gas. I've been on another site that looks a lot like this one, but mainly has hybrids and gas cars as a second vehicle for most that have them. I'm one of the few that does not have a hybrid and not really interested in paying for the new tech. right now. Also a recovering political junky trying to avoid any political arguments( as they never end).
I've already pumped up the tires, bought a ScanGaugeII, removed the front passenger seat when not needed, blocked the radiator, reduced open space around the wheels with duck tape. This latest tank is sitting at 39mpg and have averaged 36.1mpg with prior tanks recorded on the other sites mileage log.
next car will most likely be a Rio or Aveo, but want to see what I can get with what I have now.

Welcome to the site, don't forget to fill out a garage and gaslog.
Why a rio or an aveo, might I ask?
Pictures?

because they are small cheap cars: When hybrids first appeared saying 50mpg I thought to myself " I guess so,look how small it is". You have to wonder just how much is the fuel cell and how much is size and areodynamics.I have pictures of the car,but not sure yet how to get them uploaded to this site.

I just wondered because I've heard bad things about the aveo...it may be small, but it doesn't really get uncommon fuel economy...
You can use any old free image thing, like image shack or xs.to or something else such.

Welcome. There's still some political discussions here, but I avoid them like the plague, because like you, I realize that nobody agrees with anyone on that subject. Best of luck in your quest for better mileage.

Thanks for the welcome; I uploaded a picture to the garage and will fill out the mileage log on the next fill( which will be within the next 70miles). I see the Aveo is EPA rated at 35mpg highway, but the EPA accounts for bad driving habits that I've been fairly good about avoiding as well as "hypermiling" as defined on the other site.

Welcome to GS! It looks like you have a hot air intake in your Garage pix. I'm trying to look up your drivetrain, but I can't tell which one it is :
Quote:
Automatic (4 speed), 4 cyl, 2.2 L, Regular Gasoline, CLKUP
Automatic (4 speed), 4 cyl, 2.2 L, Regular Gasoline, 4 VALVE , CLKUP
Manual (5 speed), 4 cyl, 2.2 L, Regular Gasoline, 4 VALVE , SIL
Manual (5 speed), 4 cyl, 2.2 L, Regular Gasoline, SIL
Automatic (4 speed), 4 cyl, 2.4 L, Regular Gasoline, CLKUP
Manual (5 speed), 4 cyl, 2.4 L, Regular Gasoline, SIL

I'm guessing it's one of the manuals.
I'm still a political junkie, but I'm not the argumentative type.

It's one of the 2.2L 4speed automatics: though I do speed a lot of time shifting into neutral. There are no letters nor numbers after the " Cavalier" lettering on the back of the car,if that helps. Just a plain jane cavalier.
