1994 Civic VX, San Jose, CA

Hi guys,

Some of you guys have probably seen my posts in For Sale or Wanted. Finally managed to pick one up last night. Pics are below:

The pics are from the owner. I'll try to clean it up and take better pics.

Good:
- Original Owner
- Has all paperwork that he's ever done on vehicle. Water pump, timing belt, etc.
- Non-CA VX
- All stock (other than the radio)

Bad:
- High miles (186k)
- Grinds when shifting (throw out bearing?)
- Some dents here and there
- Owned a dog
- Doesn't pass smog - anyone know where i can get cats cheap?
- Doesn't have A/C - any complete kits I can get to put in?
- Missing cargo cover

-John

Congrats on finally getting a VX!

Just a note:
  • VX models didn't come with a cargo cover from the factory (for weight savings)
  • You can buy the "Maniverter" style catalytic converter for a 96+ civic if you want something that should bolt up to the stock system. Or you could just get a cheap header from Ebay and then a $50 Universal Cat converter and make your own exhaust system.
  • Complete new A/C kit from Honda ~$800
  • The grinding when shifting is going to be worn out syncros. Either rebuild the transmission or get a used one that is in better shape.

Hi Tom,

I'll check out the maniverter. Any issues with that and CA smog?

Not that I'm aware of since it is extremely close to what was on the VX in the first place.

You might check eBay for the cargo cover. I got in a bidding war for mine, then a bunch came up for sale, & prices dropped.

The smog problem is easy to fix. Just move to NC, no emissions for 1994's, might cost a little more then a new cat though.

Nice car, good luck getting her right.

whatup Limerence?!! So you finally got one. It looks good man. Finally you found your white beauty. You can get the entire A/C kit from Majestic Honda for the absolutely low price of $559.30. Good luck with the build. I need a cargo cover too.

i bought my vx from tx. got it smogged a few years later in ca after getting out of the marine corps. had a hellava time with it. finally found out it was my egr valve. egr was way out of my budget. used an xtra channel from my alarm. activited the egr on the dyno. and finally passed every time. "racers" take out the entire a/c all the time for weight savings. should have no problem finding one on craigslist or honda forum for super cheap. good luck and very nice find!!
