This would need to be done on the active vehicle, as well as the six retired vehicles in your Fuelly garage.
If you try to sync aCar to an account with a vehicle with trip tracking, it will not accept any data from that account, even if other vehicles use odometer tracking.

I don't want to delete all of my old data, so would it be best to open a new account and start fresh in that one with my existing car's data in which I can manually re-enter in the correct method? Or can my old/retired data be moved to another account?

Yes, in your situation, I would recommend a new account.
The easiest way to convert the data would be to export the fuelups from Fuelly, open in a spreadsheet. Then, import the corrected spreadsheet to the new account. You may need to change the header of the trip distance/odometer column for it to import properly. There is a guide in the import section on how to do the import.
Service records can be exported, but not imported. I hope to get that changed after a few more projects have been completed.

Ok, I created a new user brentil7 and imported just my active car's details as odometer reading and the email for that account is my Google Play account.

Would I be able to join the beta? Been a Fuelly and aCar user on and off for years, mainly stopped using them because aCar started to look a little tired and didn't automatically sync with Fuelly!
Cheers,
James.

Done!
If you have the vehicles in Fuelly already in aCar, they will double. The data will not combine.
