Hi Andy.

Thanks for your comments.

What I mean by discounts is this: In Australia where I live, the two major supermarket chains are each associated with a particular brand of fuel outlet. By spending a certain amount at a supermarket (usually $30), the printed supermarket receipt includes a voucher that can be used to obtain a small discount at an associated fuel outlet.

The discount is typically an amount per unit volume of fuel although I can envisage discounts that are a percentage of the total cost for a transaction, or just a fixed amount. (There may be other ways of applying a discount. At times there may be multiple discounts.) It would be useful to be able to enter (multiple) discounts independently of the basic fuel cost for each transaction and for the discounts to be aggregated and averaged when looking at fuel economy statistics in the app.

Two examples using litres as the unit of fuel quantity and Australian dollars and cents as the unit of currency:

On 14 Jul 2012, partial fill-up
$1.349 per litre
25.00 litres
Total cost: $33.73
Two discounts applied to this:
4 cents per litre = -$1.00
2 cents per litre = -$0.50
Net cost = $33.73 - $1.50 = $32.23

On 11 Jan 2014, complete fill-up
$1.459 per litre
48.999 litres [calculated from cost per litre and total cost]
Total cost: $71.49
One discount applied to this:
8 cents per litre = -$3.92
Net cost = $71.49 - $3.92 = $67.57

So, to be clear, the next iteration of Gas Cubby will include an Android version, and will (in theory anyhow) be able to sync with Fuelly in the cloud?

Where can I sign up as Beta Tester for this?

Colin, Thanks for the detailed post regarding tracking of discounts. I don't see why this could not be tracked. I can't guarantee it will make it into the system but I see your point and will have to talk with the guys about the best way for us to handle discounts.

Argon, What you say is correct but the timing of the apps availability will vary. GasCubby (iOS) will be launched first (this summer) with the Android version being launched later in the year. You can sign up to beta test from the button on the following page that says "I'm willing to help button on the bottom of this list":
http://www.fuelly.com/gascubby/

I think we only have spots for 100 people to Beta and we have 3,500 who have expressed interest. I'm not sure how we will select our first beta testers but if you are interested, please add your name to the list. We will make sure and email you all when the app update is pushed out.

3500 and only 100 spots? Well, I hope I get in!

Do you have any estimate on how long the beta will run and when it is projected to be finished?

Eastwood,

We don't have an exact timeline set at the moment. We have a really small team and our current focus is getting the new backend technology for Fuelly and our API ready. That should launch next weekend and then once settled we will set our sites on the Gas Cubby release. Most of the code is already done so the Beta for the next version of Gas Cubby should be out this summer. The beta will not be a lengthy process. I'm sure bugs will be discovered and new releases published quickly after the next version goes public. Our intent is to be able to iterate quickly once this next version is released.

Andy

Been using Fuelly for a while and now added GasCubby.
Is there a way to sync both?
I added my email address into Cubby and (after registering) I synced, but nothing happened....
Is there a way to sync painless (no hassle with CSV's etc) and not losing Fuelly data?

A feature I've always kind of wished for (being lazy) is for the app to use the GPS to remember where a fill-up location is so it can pre-select it when I fill up there again.

You'd need to be able to deselect that for those that don't fill the entry on the forecourt.

It could even list stations in "distance from here" order which would allow you to cope with 2 stations across the road from each other and a poor GPS fix..

I guess you could even have a selection page that would allow you to pass the location to Maps/TomTom or some-such to get directions.

Just throwing the ideas out there :-)

Another thing that's just occurred to me, I have all my GasCubby data in Fuelly. I do hope that linking it to my account won't duplicate everything. This is more a lack of bug request than a feature request I guess though :-)

Edit: I'm an idiot and have replied to a post instead on adding a new one. apologies. I will now go and chastise myself.

Dave.

I would stick to one system for now. In the next few months GasCubby will be integrated and then you will have seamless integration between the two. In the meantime, on Wednesday, we will release an update to GasTracker+ which will allow you to do what you are looking for (iOS and web integration). Gas Tracker will only be supported for a short while until the full version of GasCubby (next version to be called GasFuelly) is available.

Dave.
We understand many will have data in both Fuelly and GasCubby and working on a solution to address that.

We do plan to have the ability to set which Gas Station you fuel-up at when you log your fuel-up. There are a lot of neat ideas surrounding that concept that we would like to explore in the future.

Looking forward to future iterations.

Just wondering if Gas Fuelly will be a universal iOS app i.e. optimised for iPad screens ?

It's not an issue for me, as I have always used the iPhone exclusively for entering fillup data, but it would be nice to see the charts on the bigger iPad screen, in retina display resolution.
