I learned about Toyota cars as a kid ~1972. I noticed they were building a better mousetrap then and I see they still do. Detroit management is still trying to do everything they can not to build what Americans want. Oh sure some people want poorly built inefficient trucks but given an alternative, I think more folks would drive nice cars.
Maybe Toyota ought to set up shop in Detroit, buy/build a factory there and hire the workers GM, Ford and Chrysler eject (w/o the union baggage of course) and keep American workers in the car industry. When the union strangle-holds are gone and the ivory towers are no longer filled with self-rewarding arrogant old-boys, maybe we can turn this mess around.
