Honda showing CR-Z hybrid sports concept

Hello -

A hybrid CRX anyone?

Honda has announced two new concepts will be shown at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show later this month, the CR-Z and the PUYO. Quite different in both execution and purpose, both are based on a design philosophy that emphasizes Honda's eco-friendly attitude.

The CR-Z's reference to the Honda CR-X compact sports coupe of years gone by is an obvious one. Standing for Compact Renaissance Zero, the CR-Z is designed as a lightweight, hybrid sports car. Honda says the CR-Z focuses on a return to fundamentals, while offering a sporting feel and a small environmental footprint. We feel that the existing powertrain in the Civic Hybrid could find a good home in the engine bay of the CR-Z -- much as the original CRX made use of the Civic's engine.
Ha ha, the Zero might also memorialize the Japanese Zero fighter plane of WWII!

Mitz

Yeah, but Mitsubishi built them. Try owning one and getting the comment, "Didn't they build planes during WWII..."

Most people that buy it won't even know what that means...

Oh well, if you don't want to buy cars from companies that supported killing people in the war, I'd stay away from ford, (well, technically, all of them...and then you get into japanese companies like toyota and nissan and their support of the korean war, la la la).

Looks interesting, but prolly another one of the crx hoaxes that crop up every year, or at least one that won't end up going any where.

Since Honda started in the 1950's, I *think* it hasn't built any vehicles that were specifically designed for the military (yet).

My Dad always teases me about my "Foreign Car" purchases. Now that he's actually seen and driven some Hondas (and the reliability we've had), he's actually looking at replacing the Olds with a Honda now . As long as it's made in Ohio...

I never saw it as much in the "Rust Belt" growing up, but shouldn't VW, BMW and Mercedes be held as accountable for "War Machines"? Probably since the small, fuel efficient cars of the late 70's and early 80's from Toyota, Datsun, and Honda gave the Big 3 a run for their money while the others had smaller, niche markets. It got personal, later.

Any corporation in existence during WWII would have been producing war material for the home country, so the question could be applied equally. Here's a hypothetical/controversial question for you. If you were Jewish, would you buy a car manufactured by VW/BMW/MB?

I agree with the niche market argument. They weren't the ones taking market share away from the big 3.
