On my rabbit I shift to second at ~5-10mph, third at ~15-20mph, and *fourth at ~30-35mph depending on the incline I'm on. In the pickup, it's the same except a little bit higher speed for each shift.

*the rabbit is essentially a wide 1-2-3-5 four speed transmission when comparing gear ratios. It's generally called a 3+E tranny, and has the tallest top gear ratio (2.762) available in vw transmissions from the lates 70s to early 90s.

You ask for help, people say scangauge. You say that people need to stop with the scangauge crap. I guess there is nothing left to say cause all we have to say is crap. I guess I should be asking you for advice because it is quite obvious that we are all wrong and you are right. So tell me Compaq, how do I improve my FE? Im all ears...............

First of all I don't bring up the topic of the scangauge. You guys do.

If you want to improve your FE there is a lot of things you can do. I don't know what you have done so far so I'm going to say install rear wheel skirts and belly pan on the vx. Also do the boattail thing.

I never said you guys are wrong but stop posting that I have to get a scangauge.

I changed my shifting pattern to shift at 1900rpm in all gears. To cruise 30 or more mph I'll use 5th. The car bumping like crazy when I shift at low rpm got to me. Shifting at 1900rpm seems to keep the car from bumping like crazy. 35mpg here I come
