Coasting problems

I tend to look well ahead in traffic to look for red lights and start coasting early. I try to time the light so that I never come to a complete stop.

I have noticed two annoying things that other drivers do:

- If I'm coasting, people cut in front of me from adjacent lanes. Some behind me have actually crossed two yellow lines to pass me, and only to stop and get just one car length ahead.

- When I'm coasting to a red light, often, people don't move away promptly from a green light, and I'm forced to stop. Usually it's a cell phone idiot.

I already stopped drinking caffeinated coffee, but these idiots still torque me.

Yeah, that's why I never bother to try a long neutral coast to a light, it never works unless I'm the only one on the road.

I remember The RoadWarrior..To understand who he was, you have to go back to another time..the world was powered by the black fuel & the desert sprouted great cities..Gone now, swept away..two mighty warrior tribes went to war & touched off a blaze which engulfed them all. Without fuel, they were nothing..thundering machines sputtered & stopped..Only those mobile enough to scavenge, brutal enough to pillage would survive. The gangs took over the highways, ready to wage war for a tank of juice

Yeah, sorry, I have the same experience. Maybe a bumper sticker that reads: "coasting for the light to change... you should too" or something like that. :P

I like the bumper sticker idea. Maybe paint the whole back window with window chalk:
"Coasting to the red light, hope it turns green before we get there, please cooperate and we'll both save gas and get to our destinations faster."

Okay, maybe not...

For my morning commute I get the same thing happening. Most of it is four lane though until I get to the interstate, and most people will get in the passing lane, leaving the right lane clear when approaching a light. Then I just laugh as I pass everybody that hurried to get out of my wake.

I've decided I'm not going to try so hard to "fit in" with everybody else's bad driving habits - but I do try my best not to incite road rage.

Bill
