98 Altima hypermiled!

I had to make an emergency trip to TN tuesday. My saturn needed some maintenance and the tires mounted so I borrowed my brothers altima. Specs for the car are

1998 altima GXE
145k
fresh tune up including synthetic oil and ntk o2 sensors
5 speed
new yokohama trz's at 46psi
HAI (still being tweeked)
aluminum foil on the o2 sensors
cold front on the radiator
scangauge 2

Best tank
653.6 miles 18.10 gallons 36.1mpg target cruise speed was 65-67mph.

current tank scangauge reading is 32.3 should be within 3% using cruise control at 74mph.

numbers were taken using a full top off. I mean it won't hold anymore! The listed capacity of the tank is actually 16 gallons LOL.

Nice job. I'm driving a 94 Maxima. Love the car big and roomy inside, just wish it was a standard. So you going to trade cars with your brother?

I'll keep the saturn. I did enjoy the extra room on the trip. I had a chance to eoc the car dec 23 in some evening shopping traffic to bestbuy. I got 38mpg in the rain. This car will easily hit 40mpg combined in slightly warmer weather.

Have you changed the tstat in the max. Most nissans come with something around 170f. I would recommend trying it. He actually had to go to the store and compare them until he had a 195f that was the same size.

I posted results on altimas.net and didn't get flamed, I'm still amazed.

No it's still stock 180 degrees. We don't really get winter here so with the full grill block and belly pan the engine temps run pretty high.

No. I'm having a hard time getting motivated FE wise with this vehicle. For the price I counldn't turn it down. I'm still looking for something that will be fun, interesting or unusual to attack the top 10 with. I have a idea of what I'm looking for and when all the pieces come together I'll sell this one and see what I can do against the big guns.
