Yep, some of the new EGRs act at idle. The added "inert" mixture that the EGR adds to the intake system lowers combustion temps AND actually makes the diesels run quieter at idle...cause by not so lean a mix. Over at
www.LOSTKJs.com, we made our own SEGR (Stealth EGR Box) that fools the system and allows us to turn off the EGR without throwing CEL codes. Now at idle our little diesels are a bit louder, intake temps are lowered by more than 50 degrees F, soot is better controlled, oil changes are extended (less soot and temps) and performance has increased. Also the hesitation caused by the EGR at low rpms is gone...response (pickup) was very delayed just off idle before the SEGR. We made the "box" so that it still activates when in "Park" to keep the EGR "exercised" and in working condition.
