Craig Vetter Challenge, 5/13/2011, ridealong
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi, I'm going to ride my motorcycle down to Carmel ( from SF Bay Area ) on the morning of 5/13/2011 to observe and ride along with the competitors of the Craig Vetter Challenge fuel economy competition. I thought about entering but I wasn't able to put together a competitive package for my motorcycle. So instead I'll go observe and learn from the masters. It should be a lot of fun. If you want to join me , please let me know either here or send me a PM. I'll be sure to take pictures and report back.
all the best , L&S

Here's my bike with the saddlebags, tailsection and side panels added. We'll see how it works on the ride to Carmel.

The Vetter Challenge was great! Lots of cool vintage and rare motorcycles. Only 6 competitors in the Vetter Challenge ( including me ), they very cool but too bad there weren't more. I got to meet with Craig Vetter and there wre other motorcycling celebrities like Kevin Cameron and Peter Egan ( I think. Check out my report in the Events section.

Hi Cat, The Vetter Challenge was only a small part of an event called the Quail Gathering which was mainly focused on collectable bikes. There about 150 motorcycles on the 5/13 ride. Here some more pix for your enjoyment.

Re: Craig Vetter Challenge, 5/13/2011, ridealong
Really nice mpg. I was appalled how bad the participating BMW F650GS was (practically Teresa's twin sister with a beak, different tires and and chain drive), but then I saw that it was at 70+mph in strong headwind I kind of understood that 59.6mpg... In those circumstances the Ninjette's 93mpg is even more impressive.
And I realized that this Craig Vetter challenge is not about 'real life conditions' for me. If some idiot tailgates me I let him pass instead of accelerating to 70+ mph There are no miracles, my FE is made by hypermiling, not by a fairy grandmother
