Second the Motion

I second the motion on the Prizm (if you can find one) -- built alongside the Corolla in California, and cheaper because of the Chevy emblem.

Old Hondas are still pretty expensive -- big thing I've found is to make sure the timing belt / water pump is newly replaced (same for any interference engine).

With the gas crunch, lots of efficient used cars are being bought-up.

Other choices:

Ford Escort/Mercury Tracer
Mazda 323
Mazda Protege
Ford Aspire
Toyota Camry
Mitsu Lancer/Dodge Colt, Mitsu Mirage
Subaru Impreza L
Nissan Sentra
Dodge/Plymouth Neon
...and the usuals: Civic, Metro, Saturn SL

No not dead LOL.

Was hit from behind and pushed through stoplight. Then was hit right in drivers fender area. Spinning me like a top in the intersection. I have 2 broken ribs and a broken ankle.
Ill survive but the car is history. Wrecker yard stated the block was broken and the tranny was busted. Frame on car is definately twisted. Insurance is claiming total loss according to adjuster.
Im gonna get about $3k out of the car it looks like.

Looking for something to hypermile with

I'd also be looking at Civic VX's. You'll need some patience though as it's not like you can pick one up at every street corner. For $3000 you should have either a nice one or money to spare on one that needs a little help to be a real nice ride again. And on the plus side you will have invested in a car that will only appreciate I believe, whereas most other used cars wil still loose some of their value.

On the way to doctor today I seen a green Geo Storm on side of road for sale. Its hard for me to walk/hobble so I couldnt get across the ditch to get a good look. But it looked good on outside. Is this a car thats worth having? It was just $1500. Is it a reason thats its priced cheap?

I'd check its ratings in Consumer Reports (as well as those of its Isuzu brother, which I think was the Stylus?)

I'd recommend the same with CR...

Some I've seen around here can rust pretty badly.

How 'bout a 'Scort,Foci ,Saturn,Civic,Neon,Metro? A lot of decent suggestions ^ up there . Surely has to be some deals available in a $3K range . Do you need a sedan or are two doors acceptable ?
