2011 Ford Fiesta

I know the car is not on the market yet here in the U.S., but I am curious as what forum members think of the new Ford Fiesta. The car is already being sold in Europe, and is very successful there. Word is that the car will be sold in America as a 4 door sedan, with a 5 door hatchback a possibility. If you take a look at Ford's Fiesta webpage (http://www.fordvehicles.com/2011fiesta/?searchid=426441|32522973|210910854), you'll find that the car is pretty sleek, with nice interior appointments. I have been considering a new Honda Fit (whenever in the next decade I can afford it), but Ford now seems to be headed in the right direction, so I may just consider the Fiesta when I'm ready to buy. The U.S. auto industry could use some of us buying their vehicles-if they are up to snuff in terms of design/build quality, engineering innovation, and fuel economy.

I plan on getting a Fiesta when they come out. I'll keep the Durango because I like the utility and being able to actually get to my mountain bike trails, but the 4 door hatch with a 5 speed could be fun with a turbo!

I've done a bit of web research on the Fiesta, and according to these sources the car stacks up well compared to the competition. The acknowledged leader of the "B" car category is the Honda Fit, which has a bit more head and rear leg room than the Fiesta due to its taller profile and slightly greater length. However, the testers that have driven the European version say the Fiesta handles well, and gets mileage in the 40 mpg area (1.6 ltr 4 cyl). I think Ford is going to sell a zillion of these little cars because they will be the only "domestic" manufacturer in the ballgame in this category for at least a couple of years. I also believe Americans do not want to see Ford go into bankruptcy as Chrysler has (and GM looks to be headed towards).

Trouble is that the North American car won't be built in the US.
Buying one may help Ford a little, but won't do much for the country as a whole.

Last time I saw the Euro Fiesta they were fast catching up with the Mondeo (Contourish) for porkiness... many moons ago, they were like 1500lb 40mpg+ cars.

Without fuel, they were nothing..thundering machines sputtered & stopped..Only those mobile enough to scavenge, brutal enough to pillage would survive. The gangs took over the highways, ready to wage war for a tank of juice
