My 06 has an auto with overdrive. As for the body kit, the 03-04 have a more aggressive look IMO. It presently has over 10k miles and i am really debating if i should buy synthetic for my car for now since i get Toyota oil for 1.88 per container. I also use the OEM engine oil filter as well and i change my oil and filter every 5k miles (as listed). I also clean my air filter. Someone told me i should clean my MAF sensor and so i did with MAF cleaner, but it wasn't as dirty as i thought it would be. Same mpgs were its results.

I also live in the L.A. basin AKA, the city, so if i want to go somewhere, my car has to be driven up hills and curves ... it sucks living in the basin.

Those hills really could be a player. I seem to be getting slightly better mileage with the Corolla than I did with the Matrix , but I was thinking I'd be getting closer to 37 all the time. Same engine/tranny, I actually kept all my tuneup stuff when I traded. I'm a firm believer on keeping stuff on hand as far as cars go, I did grow up in an auto parts store, that may have something to do with stockpiling parts.

The time I got the 42mpg was when I was driving to Orlando from north Florida, drafting 18-wheelers like there was no tomorrow - 80mph too!

I'm a firm believer in synthetic. As far as cleaning that MAF sensor, I think your car is way to new to be worrying about that.

Your drivetrain was the same as mine, again though, location IMO is a huge role player.

I had an 02 acura TL-S. It averaged 21mpg city driven in commuter traffic by my wife. It got about 30mpg on the interstate at 75 mph. But alas they don't make a transmission that last longer than it takes to eat a bowl of cornflakes.

I say a 3.4l impala. 33mpg highway and tons of leg room.

Do the Matrixes (Matrices?) have any issues with sticking brakes or anything odd like that? Or maybe the trans has something weird going on, like it never locks up? Or the ECU is jacked and you are in open loop all the time?

Bill... guh? I had the dealer check the brakes and they said they were fine. I also took it to my family mechanic and said that they checked out fine. I have no idea about the trans lock-up or if the ecu is in constant open-loop. I'm going to have to take it to the dealer tomorrow since i have no diagnostic tools at home If i don't get this resolved, i might trade it in for an 03 golf or jetta tdi.

If memory serves correct, I used to run 2000 RPM's at 58-60MPH overdrive engaged. What are you running?

i just went for a spin and i ran about 2300 rpm at 60mph on a minimal-hilled highway with OD on. i'm guessing my OD is 4th gear, OD off is 3rd, 2L is 2nd, L is 1st... I learned something new... lol j/k. i ran 2000-2100 rpm at 54-56mph.
