Re: $20,000 gift for new car

The Elantra looks like the best buy for a new compact car at this time however I hope you didn't spend or about to spend $20K for one of these cars..

$650 under MSRP should be in the $15k ballpark, depending on options. That's well under $20k. Congratz to schuylkill on the new ride!

I will be paying about $650. under sticker, the actual pricing for the 2012s isn't available yet but mine will be about $300 more than the 2011 price. I think a louder horn is the only change on the mt! Hopefully I will get excellent fe on my commute. Time will tell. Hopefully I get the car.
AC package? I thought all cars come with A/C?

I know you can get the Elantra and the Civic without air theoretically, actually finding one is probably another story. I will be paying around $16,700 for everything except tax and tags.

The car finally came in, I'll be picking it up tomorrow. It has an option I wasn't interested in (auto dimming mirror) which added $ so MSRP is $17,550. and I'm paying $16,925.

FWIW I wasn't interested in the auto-dimming mirror in my GMC, but it's by far the least annoying auto-anything I've ever used. It's dim when I want it to be and not dim when I don't. So, even though you'd rather not pay for it, hopefully it will perform like mine and at least you won't pay for a manual replacement.
