WTB: D15Z1 (VX) or D16Y5 (HX) motor

Just wondering if anybody has either one of these motors around that they are willing to let go. I'm looking for a longblock to rebuild over the summer and replace my aging motor that is in Thrifty McGassaver now. I'm located in Champlin, MN and willing to drive up to one tank of gas out to pick it up. So basically about a 500 mile radius:

you can probably get it for around $500 shipped from one of those engine importers... and it'll only have around 60k miles on it too.

I know, but I don't trust an engine that somebody knows that they are going to get rid of it. They usually don't change oil and floor the bejeepers out of it and wear out the sleeves and bearings. Not to mention, it's $500. Usually when a VX or HX motor goes around here (MN) they go for free or $50 in running shape.

I did a search on car-part.com, and a number showed up starting at about $300 for the VX, not all of them have a price, so I would pick the closest 5, and give them a call.

I actually have a VX motor sitting at a yard that I used to work at waiting for me. I could pick it up for about the price of scrap ($50) but it has been sitting for about 5 years with no intake or exhaust manifold on it. I have time to play the waiting game for this one and thanks for reminding me about car-part.com, Ryland.

I am tempted to start collecting VX parts cars and engines and start putting them together for gassavers. Then people here on gassavers would have a place to pick up used parts for VXs. I am not a mechanic, but it seems like it would be fun. I would probably have to buy lots of tools. I bet at least half the people with these cars don't know what they have, and they have the wrong plugs in them, etc, and are not running in lean burn. Wouldn't it be cool to put these together for people who really want to get good gas milage? I saw one with a cracked engine block for 400$ that still drove...i should have picked it up.

Do it, pick it up...once I rebuild and install the engine I just picked up for free, I'm going to see who wants to buy my VX motor. I also have a couple VX ECUs that I'm going to put in the for sale section
