That seems like a lot of money for that car. I got my 1998 Jetta TDI for the same amount of money, and it had less miles on it. I wouldn't pay over $1500 for that car.

Eye of the beholder........... clean, rust-free EG hatches will fetch high-$$. If the car is clean and well maintained, the asking price is fair. If it has always been a TX car it'll be rust free...

I think its a good deal. The seller is willing to deal so you may get it for $2100-$2300. Rust free, not high miles for the year. Some cars have high resale values than others. VW's dont have high resale values compared to Hondas.

Compared to what VX's go for in CA, that is a good deal. A clean one here can easily push $3000.

smccall: I don't follow the prices of VW gassers, but their TDIs most certainly do hold their value. While I got mine cheap, that was only because it was bought at auction. The same car, from a private party, will usually run anywhere from $5000-$8000 depending on mileage and condition. The TDI engine alone will cost anywhere from $2000-$3000!

I stand firm that at $2500, you could better spend your money on another car. If we get closer to around $2000, then it might sound sweeter...

I could see that with the TDIs.
