when I find out who it is, I will let you know. if it is glass doctor, I may consider some other company.
as far as replacing with a better looking car. lol if I can fix this for the $200-$300 range, I will be happy. I know that cavaliers aren't the most appealing vehicles but they aren't bad.
ordered the fender from amazon for $58 shipped. it's more than the pull-a-part one but I don't have to burn a saturday to go get the thing. shipping was $25 and a good saturday is worth that at least.
total so far is $91 (side mirror and fender)

Is that fender coming pre-painted? If not, are you going to rattlecan it?

the fender is coming without paint. I used krylon fusion on the bumper and it matched up pretty good. or as we say it around here "good nuff".
I figure one can should do me and I still have part of a can from my bumper so I may try to cover it with that. if I even have a bad feeling about it, I will buy another can to make sure the coverage is good.
the prepainted ones are like $150 which to me is outrageous but I guess that is professionally painted

Cool, I hope it comes out good. Use smooth motions and never stop moving when you spray it, a wide area like that is harder to make come out smooth.

I think I had more wide open area on my bumper than my fender. the fender is really small on these cars.
my technique (if you want to call it that) is many thin coats. it keeps the runs down and it dries in about 10 minutes per coat.
regardless of how it comes out, it will look better than what it does right now.

Back in the late '90s I had about a 200 mile/day commute. Both my '85 Continental and my '77 Volvo were out of commission for a few days, and I had to rent a Cavalier. (Well, it didn't HAVE to be a Cavalier, but that was what was cheapest...) I found it to be a perfectly competent car...a far cry from the cheesy GM products of the '50s and '60s...

windshield is $200 installed so my $200 budget is now a $300 budget.
they can do it tomorrow morning in the parking lot where I work so that is all good.
I guess it really depends car to car on what windshields cost.
joebob, my car isn't bad. it has actually done me well for quite some time. I paid $2000 for it and have had it for over 5 1/2 years so yea it has done me well. the a/c hasn't worked pretty much since I got it but I am not willing to put the money into fixing it.
I may have about $2000-$2500 into repairs in it over the almost 6 years I hav had it but that is just maintenancy stuff (plus a deer).
all in all, it has been a good car

windshield is in and so is the side mirror (I guess it is more on). now it is legal again.
I have a replacement fender but it still needs paint. it will be raining the majority of the weekend so I guess that will be a next weekend project.
so far so good
